My experience with Jen was like finding someone who speaks your language and additionally, listens really well. I’m so happy with my haircut, which we both viewed as a “ dusting “. No one will know I had it cut except me which was my aim. No rushing, a welcoming space, very private and she knows hair. I can see why she has so many rave reviews.

Jen Pope is a skilled and talented hair stylist. She has a natural knack for finding a hairstyle that fits and a natural talent for finding a good hair color. Her easy and fun demeanor make getting my hair cut relaxing. She also adheres to strict cleaning protocol during these pandemic times and I trust her to give me a safe and awesome haircut.

Jen is a fantastic stylist with talent that ranges from short cuts, color, and to my long curly hair! I’m the first to admit that I’m very attached to my hair and have always been picky and nervous to go new places to get a cut done. After going to Jen a few years ago, I knew I had found a great stylist. She’s done an amazing color job on my hair as well as many great cuts over the years. I even referred my brother to her who always walks out with an awesome haircut (or even some nice natural highlights!). Definitely don’t hesitate to book with Jen- no matter your hair length/style/color she will do a great job and you’ll walk out feeling confident and happy!

About

Streetcar 6 Salon is owned and operated by Jen Pope. Her odyssey to becoming a professional hairstylist began by being born the daughter of a successful beauty salon owner.

Jen says, “A lot of clients will ask me how long I’ve been doing hair. I like to say all my life. I started doing haircuts and coloring for people close to me, with my mom’s guidance, when I was still in high school. From then on, no matter what I was studying or doing for a living, I always seemed to be doing someone’s hair.”

Her professional hairstyling career began in 2011 after earning an A.A.S. in Cosmetology at AB-Tech. Since then, she has worked at some of Asheville’s top rated locally owned salons. She continuously pursues professional excellence by studying under local and national Master Stylists and has completed several advanced certifications in cutting and coloring.

Her approach to hairstyling begins with listening to what the client wants to achieve. “I’m all about the consultation. I don’t start the service until we’ve thoroughly discussed and agreed upon the final result,” says Jen.

She prefers to work with a minimal amount of styling products and thermal tools. She focuses on creating comfortable hairstyles that are easy for clients to manage and maintain. Ultimately, the finished look is achieved through her technical precision and meticulous attention to detail.

Streetcar 6 Salon opened in 2020 as a result of Jen’s commitment to own and operate a local business in service to the local community that maximizes quality and minimizes harm. Therefore, the salon only uses and sells cruelty-free product lines and offers an affordable community oriented service menu that is inclusive of all gender expressions.

Jen notes, ” I don’t do men’s haircuts or women’s haircuts. I do haircuts for people in my community and charge according to the service received, not your gender identity. “

The name, Streetcar 6, is an homage to the electric streetcars that ran in Asheville from 1889-1934. The no. 6 streetcar was the last car to run before they were decommissioned and replaced by buses in September of 1934. Asheville was the second city in the United States to have electric streetcars and they played an integral role in the city’s development.

“They made it possible for the city to spread out and for the people to enjoy suburban life. They furnished recreation in the days when Sunday strolls and trolley rides were popular pastimes for the masses. And they gave Asheville the impetus that moved it from a struggling village to a young city.” — Charles S. Walters, vice president of the Carolina Power and Light 1934

Streetcars are a classic representation of the past looking towards the future as well as being a literal vehicle that connects community. Streetcar 6 Salon will draw upon the spirit of innovation and community connectivity to provide excellent hair services for the growing diverse population of Asheville.

Streetcar 6 Salon: Liberating and serving community, one hairdo at at time.
